As winter sets in it’s time to up the ante on your beauty regime – but with so many products to choose from, it’s hard to know what really, truly works. We asked five industry gurus to share their must-have beauty buys for keeping skin radiant and hair glossy, no matter what the weather throws your way. Our experts have even supplied some top tips on how to get the best from each product.

Payot Paris
Pâte Grise Overnight Spot Treatment, £15.50
Everyone hates having spots, me included – I was a very spotty teenager. Sometimes we rush to use the strongest, newest potion, and though you might get a quick fix, these may dry or irritate the skin too much. The French know a lot about skincare, and this product has been in the Payot Paris range for three generations. It is best used overnight, to heal, calm and soothe minor blemishes.
Expert tip Be efficient and regular with blemish control: it is vital to have a good cleansing routine.
Egyptian Magic
All Purpose Skin Cream, £25.50
This is my one of my desert island products, something I discovered about 15 years ago in LA. I love that, as an all-natural balm, it can be used for so many things: healing and moisturising lips, elbows, heels, nose (especially after a cold)… I have even used it as a cleanser. An all-round emergency friend.
Expert tip Decant some into a small pot to slip into your handbag or wash bag so it is always at hand.
Dr Hauschka
Rose Day Cream, £23.95
I discovered this cream on a shoot for German Vogue. The model had beautiful skin, even though it was the midst of winter. I asked her what skincare she used, and she introduced me to Dr Hauschka. We went straight to the pharmacy, and I’ve been hooked ever since. The Rose Cream for me always comes out in winter, when everyone suffers from the effects of cold, central heating and, for models, endless plane journeys.
Expert tip Last thing at night, massage it onto thoroughly cleansed skin, starting from your neck and working upwards in small circular movements. The beautiful rose smell is very relaxing, and night will give it time to do its best work. (I wouldn’t recommend this for oily skin types.)

Jouer Cosmetics
Essential Matte Touch, £20
This is a perfect handbag companion, as it won’t fall open no matter how much you bang it about. It takes down excess sheen, while still allowing you to create a youthful dewy complexion, which is rare in a mattifying product. Apply it before, during or after make-up.
Expert tip Target shiny areas only such as the T-zone. Apply with a brush, sponge or your finger where needed.
DuWop
Reverse Lipliner, £15
If you like wearing lipstick or gloss, especially the super-pigmented formulas around now, this product is a saviour, a great pro trick to stop feathering and bleeding outside the lip line. It’s moisturising, anti-ageing and fills in the vertical wrinklettes one gets around the mouth, keeping your lipstick picture-perfect at all times.
Expert tip This product works on all skin tones and ages.
Beautyblender
Beautyblender, £16
This is a really good way to apply make-up. The ergonomic shape makes it great to evenly cover the nooks and crannies of your face, from around your eye socket to the tide line along the jaw and neck. It can be used for tinted moisturisers, concealers and foundations, allowing you to completely control the amount of coverage on the skin
Expert tip Always dampen the sponge before use.

Philip B
Oud Royal Forever Shine Conditioner, £20 and Oud Royal Forever Shine Shampoo, £15
Unlike many hair products, Philip B’s Oud really does what it says on the bottle. Not only brilliant at retaining moisture in the hair shaft, this is also good for your scalp with its non-irritating, SLS-free formula. These products are like hair CPR, and make your locks smell divinely luxe.
Expert tip I always recommend these to my colour clients because, although the shampoo cleanses well, it doesn’t strip the colour, and the conditioner is high in amino acids, so it tames and conditions without any leftover weight to stop bounce.
Rahua
Finishing Treatment, £38
I love everything from this range: it’s 100 per cent natural, and the people who make it care about the sourcing because the founder is Amazonian (from Ecuador). This rich, cream can be used as a rinse-out or leave-in conditioner, or as a styling product to smooth and prevent frizz.
Expert tip As it holds moisture so well, this is a dream for curly, coarse or frizzy hair.
Acca Kappa
Kotibe boar-bristle hairbrush, £25
These brushes are impeccably made in Italy, so they stand even the trials of salon use. They’re brilliant for stimulating circulation in the scalp, and blood-flow to the roots of your hair for strong, healthy growth. The boar bristles spread natural oils down the shaft to help moisturise the longer parts of your hair.
Expert tip Use on curly hair before you wash it – people tend not to brush curly hair for fear of frizz, and this affects its health and shine.

Collin
Regenerating Collagen Gel, £47.24
I love this gel because it invisibly hydrates skin without leaving a greasy film that might disturb make-up. It’s also a great anti-ageing moisturiser for men or women with oily skin.
Expert tip For seriously dehydrated skin I apply the gel thickly as a mask, leave for 15 minutes, then wipe off any excess (there rarely is any, as this sinks in so well).
Anastasia Beverly Hills
Brow Wiz, £15.50
I generally prefer a matte shadow to fill in brows, as pencils often appear waxy or shiny on gaps, but this pencil is demi-matte, which makes brows appear naturally groomed and well-defined.
Expert tip Use the fine pencil tip to create natural-looking, feathery strokes, or a nice sharp point as you taper the brow to a fine end.
The Pro Make-up Shop
Hygiene Collection Makeup Brush Cleanser, £9
This is amazing! It removes even the reddest lipstick from lip brushes, which is generally impossible to do.
Expert tip Spritz a little onto a tissue and wipe across your make-up brushes and sponges to keep them hygienically clean and looking brand new.

Escentric Molecules
Molecule 01, £64
Molecule 01 is one of my favourite fragrances. I am always asked which scent I am wearing, and people always comment on how gorgeous is it. It’s addictive, long-lasting and seductive.
Expert tip It makes a great gift, since it is both completely unique and smells different on everyone.
